Welcome to Netball Alberta!

Netball was invented by James Naismith and is played in a number of countries.  It is particularly popular in the Commonwealth countries including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the Caribbean Islands.

Netballers compete in a number of world class tournaments including the Commonwealth Games, The World Championships, AFNA Championships and the Five Nations Tournament.  In 2009, the World U/21 Championships will be held in the Cook Islands.  A number of Alberta provincial players are touted to make the Canadian Team.

Netball Alberta has been fortunate to have a number of players represent Canada at the International level, including Jenn Givens, Sonja Salbuvik, Brianne Johnstone and Amy Tannahill.

Netball Alberta was established in 1992. It consists of over 140 active members and four leagues made up of five pools ranging from U/12’s all the way up to Senior A.

Netball Alberta has an exciting year ahead.  Sian Clancy, a highly respected coach from New Zealand, has just accepted the position of Development Officer. This appointment will enable Netball Alberta to continue to expand their school program.  Sian will also be working on the development of Netball Alberta’s coaching program.

Four new positions have been created on the Executive to address the ever growing needs of the association. Men’s Coordinator, Elite Program Coordinator, Recreation Coordinator and Parent/Volunteer Coordinator.

Netball Alberta President, Paula MacWilliam and Executive Director, Liz Daubney have been named Canadian U/21 Coach and Manager respectively.  They will be the driving force behind the team headed to the Cook Islands.

In August, Netball Alberta underwent lots of changes, specifically a new logo and a new website.  Browse through all the great new features and keep your eye out for new additions including player profiles, online registration and online merchandise.
